How Parents Prolong the "Terrible Twos" Into Adolescence
John Rosemond, the least favorite parenting authority of the ADHD Pediatric Bipolar apologist crowd See my post Immaturity is Now Officially a Disease and None Dare Call it Acting Out , writes wickedly excellent newspaper columns about problematic modern parenting practices that create the misbehavior that is then diagnosed as a psychiatric disorder. One excellent example appeared way back in May of 2012. I hope he does not mind if I quote from it liberall ...

Is Authenticity Worth It?
In the early 1930s, Dorothy Lucille Tipton took up piano and saxophone and eventually joined the high school band. By 1936 Dorothy was pursuing a career as a performing jazz musician, but didn t get many gigs. A close relative, Billy Tipton, by most accounts no better than Dorothy, got most of the gigs instead. It matters how others see us. If they think we have what it takes, we will get the gig. If they don t, we won t -- regardless of what we know about ...

More Evidence Regarding the Causes of Homosexuality
The initial inspiration for beginning my blog was a critique I had written of the logic underlying a Lady Gaga song, Born This Way, which I felt committed itself firmly to the naturalistic fallacy. Specifically, many aspects of the development of homosexuality both the male and female varieties were not as well understood as they should be to make some of the claims that many people felt confident in expressing. Today, however, there is new and very intere ...

Back to School is a Trusting Time
It s back to school time -- time for our children to establish new routines, connect with old friends or make new ones, meet new teachers, and perhaps even begin in a new school. Engaging in these new situations requires trust, at least initially, which can be challenging for both kids and parents. Trust is not absolute, it is circumstantial. How do we know that trust varies depending on the circumstances Think about the people you would say you trust abso ...

Illusion of Choice: The Myth of Free Will
Before we begin I want you to wink. Did you choose to wink your left or your right eye Or did you choose at all If I asked you to explain the sequence of events that led to your wink you would likely tell me that you first heard and understood my request, then chose the eye that you were going to wink, and finally told your eyelid to close and open. The continuity of this reasoning is very pleasing to your sense of self because it reinforces the notion of ...
