Advocates' mission is to help people achieve their hopes and dreams within the fabric of their communities. We partner with people with disabilities, elders, and those with other challenges to overcome personal obstacles and societal barriers so that they can obtain and keep homes, engage in work and other meaningful activities, and sustain satisfying relationships. We work to inspire communities to create opportunities for contribution and participation by all.

The history of Advocates is rooted in its original efforts to help people diagnosed with psychiatric disorders to live well and function fully in the community in the least restrictive way possible. Today that mission extends to virtually any person dealing with mental health issues.

Full-service clinical supports create a complete safety net of psychiatric care for people experiencing either acute or chronic mental health challenges. Programs for adults, children, elders and families are designed first to stabilize then support the individual as he or she develops coping skills that will strengthen and grow.

• 24-hour psychiatric emergency services
• Crisis stabilization and hospital diversion
• Psychiatric and medication services
• Outpatient mental health counseling
• Addiction counseling
• Dual diagnoses counseling and consultation
• Child and family home-based services
• School outreach programs
• Bilingual outreach services

For individuals seeking outpatient mental health services for themselves or a loved one, Advocates is pleased to offer initial appointments on the same day you call. The Same-Day Access service provides immediate assistance and support with understanding, compassion, and confidentiality. Patients take away from their initial appointment a support plan and course of treatment to meet life goals. Same-Day Access is available at the Advocates Community Counseling (ACC) clinics in Framingham and Marlborough and is open to adults age 21 and older.

Group therapy has many proven benefits that cannot be reached through individual therapy for some individuals. Group treatment can instill hope, create a sense of belonging, show you that you are not alone, and provide a safe place to practice new skills. It has been proven effective for depression, stress management, anxiety and panic, relapse prevention, symptom management, and anger management.

Time limited and cost effective, group therapy may be used alone or in combination with individual treatment and medication management. Master-level clinicians and clinical nurse specialists lead groups ranging from 6-12 participants that may last for 12-16 weeks or longer. Specific groups are available for a range of needs including life skills, recovery, anger management, substance abuse, and medication management.

Group therapy is open to individuals who wish to embark on their road to recovery alongside others with similar goals. Groups may be all male, all female, or co-ed
