I believe that having a place to where we can sort out the issues that confront us in safety and privacy is very helpful. Being able to do so with someone who is outside of our daily lives and has some training, experience and hopefully talent in helping one move forward is also very helpful. This is what counseling offers. A place where we can say anything, talk about anything with someone who has no vested interest in outcome and holds no judgement over us is very freeing.
The past informs the present. Finding the links that bind us and cause us to stumble due to distorted beliefs from long ago is what therapy is the work of psychotherapy. It is helpful to everyone.
