Dr. Nechia DeKryger, Registered Psychologist
Dr. Nechia DeKryger is a registered psychologist who provides assessment and treatment services to adults, adolescents, and children experiencing anxiety, stress, and mood disorders. She primarily practices Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a skills-based approach that has been found to be effective in the treatment of anxiety and mood disorders. These include obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety, health anxiety, specific phobias, and depression. In addition, she is working with several clients in the area of anger management, providing training in ways to better understand and manage difficult emotions.
Dr. DeKryger received her doctoral degree from the University of Louisville (Kentucky, USA) and completed a year-long fulltime pre-doctoral residency in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy through Vancouver Coastal Health Authority. During her residency, she received specialized training in the delivery of empirically supported treatments for anxiety disorders at the Anxiety Disorders Clinic at the University of British Columbia. She also completed clinical training rotations at the Eating Disorders Program at St. Paul’s Hospital and in inpatient psychiatry at Vancouver General Hospital. She has received clinical training in Anxiety Disorder Clinics in both the US and Canada.
Dr. DeKryger’s research interests and experience include the measurement, nature, and development of perfectionism in children, the evaluation of evidence-based treatments for anxiety disorders, and family accommodation in obsessive-compulsive disorder. She has published in the area of anxiety disorders and has presented her research at numerous international conferences. She also continues to provide workshops in the area of anxiety.
Education/Training
Education:
• Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky. My dissertation
involved creating a measure of childhood perfectionism and investigating the relationship of perfectionism
to other psychological problems in children.
• M.A. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky. My Master’s Thesis
further developed a scale used in the forensic assessment of personal injuries.
Current Clinical Practice Sites:
• Vancouver Private Practice: I provide individual therapy and assessment services to adults and
adolescents.
• Residences for Independent Living Society (False Creek): I provide supportive counselling to adults with
disabilities in an assisted living environment, encouraging and promoting wellness and an independent
lifestyle.

• North Shore Stress and Anxiety Clinic: I provided individual therapy and assessment services to adults,
adolescents and children.
• Clinical Resident in Psychology at the University of British Columbia Hospital/Vancouver Coastal Health
Authority. I completed rotations in the UBC Anxiety Disorders Clinic, St. Paul’s Eating Disorders Clinic,
and Vancouver General Hospital’s Short Stay Program.

University of Louisville.
