I have over 15 year of counseling experience. As a psychotherapist, I specialize in Relationship Issues including couples counseling, divorce counseling, life transitions, self-esteem, workplace issues, parenting issues, and any underlying mental illness such as depression, anxiety, or substance abuse. I am a solution-focused therapist and apply a direct approach to resolving issues, emphasizing self-awareness and positive support systems. Besides finding concrete solutions to present problems, I utilize psychodynamic techniques to explore past negative patterns which have led to the current problem. This is crucial to growth and long-term change. Underlying family of origin issues often creep into adult lives causing a cycle of problems. These issues must be addressed with supportive, neutral, professional guidance. Resolution of past hurts and traumas creates happiness and wellness in ourselves and in our present relationships. We are then in a position to make better choices and manage negative emotions in a mature, productive way. Most clients report relief and greater optimism about their issues after about 6 sessions.

Besides psychotherapy, I also provide adoption home study services for individuals and families. I have been doing adoption work since 1998 and have much experience and knowledge in private adoption home studies.
Bio
I graduated with a Master's Degree in Social Work from The University of Houston in 1997. In 1992, I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Northern Michigan University. I have been in private practice since 2001. In addition, I consult with various mental health organizations. As an author, I have written articles for Houston Woman Magazine. I have also written a self-help book for recently divorced women, due for publication later in 2012. I will soon have this book posted. As a side note, most clients eventually ask me about my "other job", which is acting & painting. I believe each person has multiple talents and passions in life and much happiness comes from creative outlets. .
