Counseling for individuals & families
Rifle Middle School, GWS & Basalt
I received my LPCC (licensed professional counselor candidate) license in January of 2017 and began seeing clients at that time. I have always worked well with children and families due to my schoolteacher background, and this was my first specialization. I worked at the Rifle Middle School as the 8th grade special education teacher for 2 years, and then the severe needs teacher for my final year there.

Now, my specializations and interests are broader, and I typically use a neurological approach in my therapy sessions. I am presently working towards my PhD in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in neuropsychology, and have found that many issues can be explained and treated through a thorough understanding of the brain and its systems. I specialize in treating sleep issues, stress due to trauma in adults and children, communication issues between parents and children, and trust issues through equine therapy.

I provide a sleep-focused treatment for insomnia, CBT-I (I encourage you to google it, it's wonderful, research-based, and well-regarded), trauma-focused CBT (TF-CBT), Let's Connect ( a role-play family therapeutic approach), and EMDR (for trauma, primarily). Of course, I am able to serve more general issues. I have chose to become trained in the specific areas listed above because they apply to many of my clients.
I am originally from Rochester, NY, and had an early interest in music. I played guitar and sang songs in coffee houses and clubs, working by day as chef at various restaurants. My interest in music brought me to Nashville, TN, where I lived for a number of years. In 2010 I graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Music Education from MTSU and began working for the public school system as a music teacher and eventually as a special education teacher. I found that I enjoyed music therapy even more than teaching music, so began work for a residential treatment center. I found the the work I did with troubled adolescents was extremely impactful. After being a successful chef and teacher, I discovered my calling in helping to heal the maladies of people who had almost nothing going for them. It was then that I enrolled in a mental health counseling masters program, graduating with distinction from Capella University in late 2016.

I look forward to working with you and serving our community through mental health counseling.
