Bayside Music Therapy Services provides quality Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT) for individuals in San Ramon and the surrounding area. Music Therapy is a professional healthcare discipline that uses music as a therapeutic tool to facilitate achievement of functional, individualized, nonmusical goals. Research shows that when implemented by a trained practitioner, clinical music therapy techniques can facilitate positive change in sensorimotor function, cognition, communication, social interaction, and emotional processes. As defined by the Center for Biomedical Research in Music, Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT) is the therapeutic application of music to cognitive, sensory, and motor dysfunctions due to neurological disease. NMT and its standardized treatment techniques are based on a neuroscience model of music perception and production that has developed in response to basic and clinical research in these domains.

Bio
Laura received a master’s degree in Music Therapy from Colorado State University. She has advanced training in Neurologic Music Therapy, holding the designation of Fellow from the ‘Robert F. Unkefer’ Academy at the Center for Biomedical Research in Music. After completing her internship on the inpatient LifeSkills Rehabilitation unit at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, CO, she worked as the staff Neurologic Music Therapist at the Center for Neurorehabilitation Services, as the program director for the Shared Journeys Brain Injury Foundation day treatment program, and in private practice. Laura moved to the California Bay Area in the summer of 2009, where she started Bayside Music Therapy Services in order to continue to provide quality music therapy services for individuals and groups with physical, cognitive, communication, and social needs.
