Cognitive Behavior Therapy for Anxiety & Related Issues
Anxiety, OCD, Eating Disorders and Insomnia
The Cognitive Behavior Therapy Center of Silicon Valley in San Jose specializes in practical, goal-oriented therapy for Anxiety, OCD & Related Issues. Our mission is to offer compassionate and scientifically-based therapy tailored to its clients’ individual needs. The CBT Center specializes in Anxiety, OCD and related problems such as eating and sleep disorders and provides therapy for adults, children, teenagers and their families.

The CBT Center’s primary focus is on the evidence-based treatment of anxiety and related disorders because there are subtle differences in how each anxiety disorder should be treated. While many therapists work with anxiety, the cognitive and behavioral approaches used at the CBT Center require extensive continuing education in the specific conceptualization for each person and evidence-based strategies for each disorder.

We use a variety of cognitive and behavioral strategies depending on what the research indicates might be most effective for a particular problem. These interventions might include cognitive therapy, behavior therapy, exposure therapy, exposure and response prevention, dialectical behavior therapy skills for emotion regulation, mindfulness and acceptance-based therapies, and positive psychology.

The CBT Center serves the Silicon Valley communities of San Jose, Saratoga, Mountain View, Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, Los Gatos, Los Altos, Palo Alto, Cupertino, and Campbell.
Laura L.C. Johnson, MBA, LMFT, LPCC, is the Director of the Cognitive Behavior Therapy Center of Silicon Valley. Laura has a passion for her work as a cognitive behavior therapist and helping her clients make lasting changes in their lives. Laura’s counseling approach integrates cognitive behavior therapy and other evidence-based therapies with positive psychology. Her focus on positive, strength-based counseling and therapy comes from both her training in positive psychology as well as her personal values that therapy (and life) is most satisfying when we look at what’s right.

Laura has extensive training in cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) for anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), eating disorders and sleep problems and in dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) for emotion regulation. Laura is certified in cognitive therapy by the Academy of Cognitive Therapy , a graduate of the year long extramural program at the Beck Institute for Cognitive Behavior Therapy, intensively trained in dialectical behavior therapy by Behavioral Tech and a graduate of the OCD Foundation’s Behavior Therapy Training Institute.

In addition, Laura has a unique background as a psychotherapist with a Columbia MBA and hands-on management experience in the corporate world. This has given her an insider’s view into how a demanding work environment affects a high-achieving person’s emotional and physical health. As a result, Laura has a special focus on anxiety disorders and stress management for business professionals and executives.

Laura has a master’s degree in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in health psychology from Santa Clara University as well as an MBA from Columbia University and a BA in Communication from the University of Miami. Laura is dual licensed in California as a Professional Clinical Counselor and a Marriage & Family Therapist.
