Psychologist in Downtown Honolulu, Individuals/Couples
Heal Yourself! Enjoy Life More! Realize Your Dreams!
My experience living and working in other cultures has helped to expand my understanding of the human condition and greatly inform my practice of psychology. I enjoy incorporating Eastern techniques, such as mindfulness meditation, alongside Western approaches, especially cognitive psychology to assist my clients in their journeys to minimize suffering and maximize life satisfaction.
Psychotherapy is something that almost everyone can benefit from. As we travel through life we accumulate many experiences. Some of these experiences may adversely affect our functioning beyond what would seem normal. Some of these experiences and biological situations may create psychological conditions. To understand how these experiences and may be affecting you and develop strategies to better cope with and recover from them psychotherapy can be very beneficial. Please consider how valuable your quality of life and functioning are and be proactive in improving your life.
I am happy working with adults and couples as well as with children and adolescents and their families. I have helped these people to succeed in their efforts to overcome, better manage or adjust to their depression, anxiety, trauma, anger, compulsions, obsessions, addictions, relationship problems, sexual orientation, identity issues, thought disorders, sleep disorders and stress.
I look forward to working with you.

Bio
After graduating form Cornell University with my Bachelor’s degree I joined the Peace Corps to spend three years in The Philippines doing development work. I subsequently spent two years in Japan studying the language and culture while working in education and business. I then traveled to China where I spent one year learning Mandarin Chinese and exploring the country before moving to Taiwan for two years to continue my studies and support myself as a journalist. I’ve also traveled extensively throughout Asia over the last three decades from Bombay to Hanoi to Seoul to Malacca.
I returned to the United States to pursue my Master’s degree in Social Work at the University of Hawaii at Manoa and, after working as a clinical social worker for ten years providing psychotherapy to children, adolescents and adults, I pursued my Doctoral degree. I graduated with my Doctorate in clinical psychology in 1999 and have been in private practice since then working with a diverse clientele with a wide-range of issues and concerns.
