Bio
Professional Experience:
I began my career as a therapist later in life after raising my children. While in school earning my Master’s Degree in Social Work, I interned and then was hired as an advocate for the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office’s, Domestic Violence Unit.
I also interned at The Family Service Agency offering counseling services to individuals in need. After graduation, I worked with offenders of domestic violence facilitating anger management groups.
Since 2000, I have been providing couples, individual and family counseling to people who face difficult struggles in their lives. As do many clinicians, I work with a variety of clients with differing issues. My areas of special training and experience include relationship problems, conflict resolution, anger management, co-parenting, parenting struggles, and domestic violence. Other areas of special training include work with depression/anxiety, substance abuse, child/sexual abuse, bonding and attachment issues, as well as other areas of life’s struggles.
Because I strive to provide the best therapeutic services to my clients, I consistently work at becoming more educated by attending conferences, workshops and reading professional materials.
As a Therapist:
The characteristics that I feel are paramount in fostering a quality connection between my client(s) and myself involve my ability to compassionately listen without judgment. Because very personal issues are revealed in counseling, often causing anxiety or fear, I attempt to alleviate these feelings by genuinely demonstrating my empathy and concern.
Although I am caring and understanding, I feel that in my work as a therapist it is essential to honestly point out behaviors, actions and concerns I am observing. Sometimes this may be difficult for my client(s); however, I feel it is an important element of change and personal growth.

I have to say that after seeing a few different people for my anger issues upon returning from Iraq, and having it be a court-ordered program, I was a little skeptical about Mary and her ability to help me. That was quickly removed and I felt as comfortable talking with her and working through the Anger Management book, as well as other issues I was facing, as though I had known her for years. She is a caring individual and makes you figure out the root causes to your problems. I thank her very much everyday for giving me my life and personality back.
