Bio
As an integrative psychotherapist I draw on a number of approaches and enjoy working with a wide spectrum of clients. However my particular interests are helping clients work through childhood and family issues and support them in making sense of often complex family dynamics. I am also passionate about the positive effects the Buddhist practices of mindfulness and compassion can have on our well being and our relationships. I am excited by the new discoveries in neuroscience which are showing both the power of mindfulness and compassion to change us for the better and how fundamentally relational we are: we are wounded in relationship and we heal in relationship.
While I think that mental illness can be a useful way of understanding our experience, as an existentially trained therapist I see therapy as an opportunity to make sense of our life experience and find our own meaning. I work relationally, and offer a warm and accepting relationship. We area social species and only a new experience of relationship can change our way of being in the world.
Increasingly I view anxiety and depression as symptoms of a way of life that neglects our connections with one another and is making us stressed and sad. I am currently working on a book, the Connected Self, for more information visit my blog, the Connected Self.
