Therapist at Health and Healing Therapy
Hi, I’m Roxanne.

If you are experiencing a time in your life where you are feeling uncertain, stressed, stuck, or more anxious or depressed than usual, I can help. We can work together to help you feel more calm, confident, hopeful, and connected to yourself again.

Just like in any relationship, therapy starts off by getting to know each other. Naturally, I will spend more time getting to know you, since supporting you will be my main concern. I will ask you different questions about your past, present, and future. I want to know about who and what is important to you.

By gaining a history from you and understanding some of your life experiences, it will help me understand what may be most helpful for you. You will always get to choose your pace and how much you share with me. I will respect your comfort and boundaries, and we won’t go too fast, as it’s important that you choose what to share and when you share the details of your life.

Throughout our relationship and work together, my hope is that I would gain your trust and become a safe person for you to talk to. When we can trust someone and rely on them to give us support, it allows us to be more open and honest, which can help us grow. When we share things about ourselves, it opens the window for us to feel more supported and cared for, which is something we all need and one I hope you can experience.

When facing a difficult period in your life, you face two major questions: “Why is this happening?” and “What can I do about it?” Together, we will work through both of them.

Perhaps you’ve been in therapy before and have decided to return the therapy to continue your work on the same issue or to work on something new. Or, maybe this is the first time you’ve considered counseling or perhaps the idea of therapy has been nagging at your for quite some time, but now you’re finally ready to take the steps to begin. Whatever the case, rest assured you will be in good hands with Health and Healing Therapy.

If you decide to work with me, I will provide you with a counseling experience that is unique and individualized to meet your specific strengths, needs, and overall goals. I utilize evidenced-based therapies and up to date research on the best counseling and therapy techniques that have been proven and shown to help people meet their goals and facilitate the things they want to change.

I believe when you can give yourself the time and space to allow yourself to be open about and work through your uncertainties, pain, difficulties, and confusion with a therapist who you can trust and one who will help, you have deep courage. Is now a time that you can give yourself that time and space? I encourage you to consider if you are ready to care for yourself in a new way. We all have times in our lives when we need to reach out for help from another person. Perhaps this one of those times for you.

I welcome the opportunity to see you through these difficult times and guide your toward your goals so you can feel better. You don’t have to do this alone. If you believe I may be someone who you can connect with and who could help you create the life you want, reach out and contact me.
My clinical journey started later in life. Before becoming a therapist, I did various things professionally; I was an environmental lobbyist, a historian, an author, an editor, a teacher, and a writing coach. Each of these steps and phases in my life’s journey have impacted how I care for and help others. I love to write, teach, research, advocate, and support others, and I bring facets of all of these into the therapeutic process.

Even before I went back to school for my second master’s degree, this time in social work with a an emphasis on counseling, I partnered with another mental health professional and began a community education group that focused on expanding people’s understanding of mental illness with an emphasis on destigmatization. By connecting with people through that group and others who worked in the field of counseling and therapy, it became clear to me that I wanted to help others in the therapy process, so I began my graduate training.

Previously, I have worked at both a local hospital that provided psychiatric care and another private practice. At the hospital, I worked with clients who suffered from severe mental health issues and were involved in more long-term care. I also worked with seniors in a gerontology program which focused on difficulties related to health challenges, isolation, caregiving responsibilities, and, at times, coping with early dementia. Whereas at the private practice, I had the opportunity to work with children, teens, adults, and couples. Most of the people I worked with were dealing with anxiety, depression, life transitions, family stressors, roles and responsibility difficulties, and relationship issues. Throughout my time as a therapist, I have provided individual therapy, couples counseling, group education, and group therapy.
