Sierra Family Therapy
Families, Marriage and Inidivual Therapy
Providing compassionate and strength based therapy for couples, individuals, teens, children and families. Sierra's approach centers much around EMOTIONALLY FOCUSED COUPLES THERAPY and IMAGO. Both of these concepts are based on attachement theory. We work with couples to discover the reasons behind their reactions (anger, fear, distance, etc) and discover more effective ways to meet each others needs through positive emotional attachment (non-violent communication, re-attachment, growing together and helping one another discover and heal unmet needs and previous emotional wounds). Sierra offers family therapy both in home and in our office in Grass Valley, Nevada City, Auburn, Colfax and Roseville. Family systems counseling suggests that therapy based on family-systems principles is more likely to produce desired lasting change than working solely with individuals. The goal of family therapy is for family members to understand and accept their individual responsibility in the emotional functioning of the family unit.
Education/Training
Born and raised in Grass Valley, I completed my undergraduate degree in psychology at California State University of Sacramento and earned my Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy from Chapman University.
Trained EMDR therapist
Bio
My working experience in Grass Valley, Auburn and Roseville has been both diverse and rewarding. The majority of my internship was spent with families and at risk youth in residential treatment. After licensure, my work continued to focus on individuals, couples, children, teens and their families. I have worked in both residential and private practice settings with families re-integrating youth into their homes from out of state and in state residential treatment placements. My practice has evolved further to include couples and individuals who seek coaching and guidance for a more fulfilled personal and family life.
My experience has granted me a strong background in depression, anxiety, grief, children & adolescent issues, eating disorders, family dynamics, couples therapy, situations specific to trauma, EMDR, and the dilemmas found in career and partner choices. I also have a great deal of experience with other clinical issues and would be happy to discuss further questions that you may have about me and the services our center provides
