Our Mental Health and Addictions Program provides comprehensive care across the age continuum for persons living with serious mental illness and/or addictions.

St. Joseph's has worked closely with a consortium of providers to develop a specialized model of care for those requiring Withdrawal Management Services. Our Mobile Crisis Team works in partnership with Toronto Police Services to respond to emergency 911 calls from people in the community who are in need of mental health, crisis or victim support.

Our 34 inpatient beds Mental Health unit provides a healing environment for our patients with two separate treatment spaces to accommodate all different stages of illness – those who require intensive treatment and focused care in a safe, highly secure area, and those who can be transferred to a less restrictive area where activities of daily living will help them return to the community.

The unit is also located adjacent to the Mental Health program's Day Hospital, which encourages a seamless transition for acutely ill patients to receive treatment and care in the Health Centre while returning to the comfort of their home at night.

Child and Adolescent Mental Health services for both inpatients and outpatients are now located on the third floor of the Our Lady of Mercy Wing. This beautiful, bright new space brings all members of the interprofessional team to care for our patients in a safe and healing environment.

Our Mental Health program received formal academic status through the Division of General Psychiatry, Department of Psychiatry, University of Toronto in 2003. This status enriches the intellectual culture of the program, benefits the Health Centre as a whole, and puts St. Joseph's a step closer to fulfilling its Vision to be Canada’s Best Community teaching hospital.
