April Wright, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist LMFT
California Licensed Individual, Couples, and Sex Therapy
April Wright Therapy
I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist that approaches therapy with a holistic point of view. Over the past twelve years, I have had the opportunity to work with many diverse people from various cultures, ages ranges, and socio-economic systems. Many of the issues I assist with include Trauma/PTSD, sexual assault/molestation, stress/panic attacks, chronic pain, and relationship dynamics.
I am also an expressive art therapist. That means I use right and left-brain processes such as breathing exercises, meditation, dominant/non-dominant handwriting, dance/movement, collage and art to access deeper elements of self for whole body healing.
My style is collaborative, empathic, compassionate, and with the utmost respect for your strengths and internal resources. I use EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, psychodynamic, mindfulness, expressive arts and somatic psychotherapy to ensure you are able to calm anxiety, thrive after trauma, and rediscover your most precious assets. We will explore all of you including your bio-psycho-social-spiritual values, beliefs, and thought patterns. As a holistic psychotherapist, we co-create a system that looks at your diet, lifestyle choices, spiritual/religious beliefs, and the mind/body connection that accesses deeper aspects of yourself for whole body healing.
I specialize in working with youth, adults, couples, and groups; many of whom consider themselves part of the LGBTQ community struggling with a variety of tribulations including life transitions, strong emotions of anxiety and/or anger, trauma, spirituality, and grief/bereavement.
Prior to psychotherapy, I worked in the government and private sectors of information technology. My experience has given me a deep understanding of what it takes to optimize leadership, C-level executives, and motivate employees for optimal performance. Through my leadership and team building retreats and workshops, your team can master critical thinking, expand creativity, and foster innovation for business development and growth.

Prior to being a psychotherapist, I was a Technical Writer/ Graphic Artist, and User Interface Designer for the State and Federal government in Washington DC and a Business Analyst for a wireless communications company in San Diego before turning my full attention to the mental health industry.
Having been a well-respected businesswoman and thriving from my own childhood traumas, I am uniquely qualified to listen, empathize, and transform change and growth through acceptance and understanding.
My dedication and practice have earned credibility and trust from associates and peers at Open Paths Counseling Center, TEENLINE, and now in private practice. Clientele have included professionals who experience depression, anxiety, panic attacks, childhood traumas, and relationship problems.
I approach mental health from multiple aspects. Therapy is not just about feeling good; it is about the quality of life and relationships we can enjoy. I strive to create practical steps for each client to explore their own meaning, purpose, and joy in life.
My experiences as a corporate executive and as a psychotherapist allow me to provide a service where the process of getting mentally fit is more than just being aware; it’s an internal acceptance and letting go the need for control. This instills confidence to build new pathways for healthy, intimate relationships, a stable career, and balance in life. You are able to function optimally in all areas of your life.
