Insight Oriented Psychotherapy for Change
Marianne Hughes Psychotherapy Services
I have a creative based and psychoanalytically informed psychotherapy practice. I pull from all theories of human development and apply them as they apply specifically to the issues at hand. Strengths and problems are both addressed as the individual finds important. My expertise is on emotional regulation, identity development, and relationship dynamics. We may focus on the hear and now, address past issues, and often connect the two to address and resolve current distress. I listen and find listening to be a major part of the therapeutic work. Goals and perspectives addressed in treatment are arrived at collaboratively. Education and support can be offered as dynamics unfold and the therapy deepens and transforms.
Education/Training
I have a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) from Michigan State University and a Master of Professional Studies in Art Therapy and Creativity Development (MPS/MA) from Pratt Institute. I have several years of postgraduate education and training in expressive analysis and over 20 years of experience working with inpatient and outpatient psychiatry, court adjudicated adolescents, sensory impairments and developmental delays in early childhood, addiction and rehabilitation, anger and aggression dynamics, refugees, adaptation and acculturation issues, homelessness, depression-early and late onset, and early adulthood transitions.
