CHD's Adult Mental Health programs serve people with severe and persistent mental illness, co-occurring alcohol and drug disorders and people with histories of trauma and abuse. These services range from intensive support and supervision provided in CHD Adult Mental Health residences staffed 18-24 hours a day to individualized supported housing services provided to people in their own homes.

CHD Adult Mental Health services in the greater Springfield and Holyoke areas include mental health clinics licensed by the Dept. of Public Health. Services are provided to individuals with serious psychiatric disorders who need support or skill development to function successfully in a non-institutional setting. Individual and group programs aim to reestablish stability and improve a client's ability to understand and cope with the effects of their psychiatric disorders. CHD also has programs that prepare individuals to move on to employment and vocational training and help them find jobs.

CHD's Adult Mental Health programs in Massachusetts are part of a new system of coordinated mental health services called Community Based Flexible Supports (CBFS). Through these CBFS networks, CHD is able to provide a coordinated system of services including clinical, housing, and employment supports. CHD's CBFS partners include Hawthorn Services and Community Enterprises in Holyoke and the Gandara Center, Martin Luther King Center, Community Enterprises, Mental Health Association, and Human Resources Unlimited in Springfield.

CHD's Adult Mental Health services in Connecticut provide residential support services to adults with severe or prolonged mental illness who have previously been in hospitalized or in institutional settings. CHD's Connecticut programs also provide short-term residential placements, bridge loans and rental assistance, financial services, and a HUD-supported supported housing program for homeless individuals who have mental illness or chemical addictions.

CHD's Adult Mental Health program in Connecticut has offices in Hartford, Waterbury, Danbury and Torrington.

CHD’s In-Home Therapy Services (IHT) is a structured, consistent, strength-based therapeutic relationship between a licensed clinician and a youth (under the age of 21) and his/her family. The purpose of the relationship is to treat the youth’s behavioral health needs, including improving the family’s ability to provide effective support for the youth to promote his/her healthy functioning within the family. Interventions are designed to enhance and improve the family’s capacity to improve the youth’s functioning in the home and community and may prevent the need for the youth’s admission to an inpatient hospital, psychiatric residential treatment facility, or other treatment setting.

How Does it Work?
One or more members of a team consisting of professional and paraprofessional staff offer a combination of medically necessary In-Home Therapy and Therapeutic Training and Support. The In-Home Therapy team develops a treatment plan and works with the family to implement focused interventions and behavioral techniques to assist with:
• Problem-solving
• Limit-setting
• Risk management/safety planning
• Communication
• Skill building to strengthen the family
• Advancing therapeutic goals
• Improving ineffective patterns of interaction
• Identifying and utilizing community resources
• Developing and maintaining tools for the youth and parent/care
