Practice Information:
To mindfully awaken is to become aware or conscious in the here and now while incorporating all that we have experienced before this moment in time. To live wholeheartedly is to live without shame, without the fear of showing up and being ourselves. It is this practice of living courageously and authentically, with non-judgmental awareness, while embracing our worthiness that helps us live a fuller life in which we can Show Up, Be Seen, Live Brave™.

Specializing in psychotherapy with adults and couples, my approach is influenced by mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, Somatic Experiencing, EMDR, attachment theory, and CBT.

Bio:
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of North Carolina and have worked with individuals, couples and groups since 1994 in outpatient therapy centers, an inpatient psychiatric hospital, an AIDS service organization, a local birthing & wellness center for women, as well as individual and group private practices.

Having completed the SE® Trauma Institute's 3-year (216 hour) certificate program, I work as a Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner. As a SEP, I draw from a body-awareness approach to guide clients in stabilizing their nervous system and accessing their body's innate capacity towards self-regulation, wholeness and healing. SE® was developed by Peter Levine, PhD, a therapist, author and educator specializing in the treatment of chronic stress and tonic immobility (aka post-traumatic stress disorder).
I am a Certified Daring Way™ Facilitator (CDWF) offering individual sessions, 8-week groups and weekend intensives. The Daring Way™, based on the research of Brené Brown, is a highly experiential approach to exploring issues around vulnerability, courage, worthiness, and shame. Its focus is on cultivating greater authenticity and wholeheartedness, while developing shame resilience skills and "daily practices that transform the way we live, love, parent and lead." I am also trained as a facilitator in the Rising Strong™ curriculum.

I am a Certified Therapist in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing through the EMDR International Association. EMDR is an integrative psychotherapy approach containing elements of many effective psychotherapies, including psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, interpersonal, experiential, and body-centered therapies. EMDR’s effectiveness, particularly for PTSD, is supported by a broad base of research and can help dissipate negative thoughts and feelings associated with disturbing memories and traumatic experiences while helping the brain to reprocess negative events and maladaptive core beliefs. When appropriate, I use EMDR to treat PTSD, anxiety disorders, depression, and complicated grief. More information, a review of the research, and answers to frequent questions about EMDR can be found through the EMDR Institute, Inc.
