Watching Out for the Counterfeit

When a teller begins their training at their new bank, their employers carefully teach their new workers how to diligently count money, collect and exchange currency, access the vault and use the silent alarm. But among the very first things the new teller is required to do, is to get their hands on cold hard currency. They are required to study the greenbacks with great intent. Every nuance, form, texture, weight, smell and color must be memorized and intentionally observed.

All of this serves to assist the teller in discovering the substance of real money. Never once do they get the opportunity to handle a counterfeit bill.

Every day, I see people come to the office or contact me in some way that are struggling to find something real in their lives. These people truly are “looking for love in all the wrong places.” As the root of the problem surfaces, it shows that they are looking for God in a sea of counterfeit. A sea of counterfeit that includes addiction, co-dependency, destruction and fear.

Our culture would tell us that true life, happiness and success can be achieved through things that our heart would tell us are good. But from working with these hurting people I’ve discovered that they have been unintentionally lost in and caught up in the illusion of real life and end up in despair. These hollow pursuits cause pain, grief, stress, anxiety and depression; all the while making empty promises of joy abundance and contentment.

But I say there is a real answer! A real hope and a real life waiting for those that choose to not only see the counterfeit for what it is, but to directly look at the inspired truth and abundance of life available through our Father God. He is eager for you to seek after Him. After all, he is seeking after you.

We must choose to be intentional to discover the authentic parts of life. When we do not will we unintentionally get caught up in the counterfeit.
