Statins and Diabetes
STATINS AND DIABETES
Americans are taking cholesterol lowering drugs called Statins (Lipitor, Zocor,
Crestor, etc). The journal of American Medical Association ( JAMA ) and Mayo Clinic have linked the use of Statin drugs to Diabetes.
The FDA recently ordered Lipitor's label to be changed to include information regarding the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
Diabetes may lead to nerve damage called Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy. Symptoms
include tingling or burning in the toes, feet, fingers, hands and arms.
When detected early, prompt treatment can usually prevent serious complications.
According to American Diabetes Association, Nerve Conduction Velocity (NCV) testing is suggested as the minimum criteria for the diagnosis of Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy.
NCV testing can be done in our office by the special laboratory, technician will perform the test, MD will give the report in 3-5 days. Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy may be treated with specific nutritional protocol and diet, combination of alternative and conventional medicine methods may be the most effective. If you have Diabetes or know anybody who has it, have NCV testing done, prevention is better then treatment.
