Lymphatic Drainage Therapy (LDT) is a gentle, noninvasive hands-on technique. A LDT trained therapist offers skilled evaluation of lymphatic functioning (manual lymphatic mapping), and provides precise rhythm and gentle pressure to activate optimal lymph flow. Manual Lymphatic Mapping assesses lymphatic circulation and assist in the development of alternative pathways for draining stagnated body-fluid. LDT is beneficial for many medical conditions (including post-surgical), and assists in the development of health and for maintaining health. LDT works to activate fluid circulation while stimulating the immune system and the parasympathetic nervous system. Lymph Drainage therapy has applications to the treatment of lymphedema. Lymphedema can be managed by an effective therapy called complex or complete decongestive physiotherapy (CDP). CDP is the most effective therapy for lymphedema. CDP is composed of (1) manual lymph drainage techniques performed by a carefully trained lymphatic therapist, (2) compression bandaging or compression garments, (3) special exercises, and (4) daily vigilant skin care. Typical results of therapy include reduced edema, increased fluid movement, and increased range of motion, increased tissue health and healing and improved sense of well-being. The self-treatment component of therapy is very significant in the re-establishment of the feeling of well-being.
