Are bitter arguments killing the love and respect you once felt for each other? Are you losing sleep, crying too much, or blowing up "for no reason"? Do you yell at the kids and later berate yourself for being a "bad" parent? Chronic arguing and lack of affection can leave us feeling depressed and irritable, with no hope for the future, little energy or pleasure in daily activities, and lack of desire to move closer to the ones we love. In tough times like these, talking with an impartial person in a confidential setting can be a relief and a source of new perspective.
I have helped people like you work through challenges such as marital and workplace discord, parent/child conflict, suicidal thoughts, excessive anger, low self-esteem, infidelity and broken trust, ineffective communication, suicidal thoughts, processing rape or other traumas, and adjustment to divorce, death of loved one, job loss, or return from military service. |

Bio |
I will help you understand how coping strategies like withdrawal, aggression, or substance use have helped as well as hurt you and teach new ways to address long-standing struggles more effectively. You will identify and build on your strengths, listen more effectively and communicate more clearly, set clearer boundaries, say what you want and need with confidence, and express anger in healthy and productive ways. My style is relaxed and interested, caring and respectful. My approach is collaborative consultant, not "the expert" who will tell you what to do. I have recently been trained in clinical hypnosis and begun to weave this approach into work with clients who have suffered for a long time with problems that recur over and over.
I also hold a Certificate in Pastoral Counseling. I believe the Divine is present in all human experience and relationships. This value is foundational for me as a person, and essential to my practice as a therapist. I volunteered for 10 years in faith formation for children (Catholic), as a catechist for 4 years and the 5th grade team leader for 7. While my volunteer experience has been in my faith tradition, I hold that there are many paths to the Sacred and honor religious traditions other than my own. I have been married for 42 years and raised twins who are now adults on their own. |
