Why Wait to Have the Life You Want?
REMOTE SESSIONS DURING CORONAVIRUS: PHONE OR ONLINE
OVERVIEW
Together we look at your life to see what works, what doesn’t, and why. We’ll see who you are, the relationships you’re in, and what stops you from having the life you want. We’ll see how you act, think, feel, and relate to others today and how those have been affected by your life experiences. We’ll work to change things so your life does work for you.

TRAUMA
You may feel anxious, depressed, or alienated. Here you can feel safe, talk honestly about what happened and about how it still affects you, even when other people don't understand or can't stand to hear it any more. I help you understand why you’re reacting as you do, even when you may feel out of control or a little "crazy." You'll learn ways to work through the psychological and emotional impact of what happened so you can get your life back. If you or your family member is a victim of violent crime, you may be eligible for therapy at no cost to you.

ADDICTIONS (Substances and Behaviors)
You might have difficulty with alcohol or drugs, or you may need help evaluating if that’s true, how great the difficulty is, or what you can do about it. You may also be asking similar questions about sexual behaviors or compulsions, porn, gambling, Internet usage, spending, eating, cutting, or anything else you do that feels questionable or out of control. Some people feel like they are addicted to another person, what sometimes is referred to as "love addiction."

GAY/LESBIAN/BISEXUAL ISSUES
While I work with heterosexuals, I also work with many gay, bisexual, or lesbian people, both individually and in couples. If you’re in a process of self-discovery, you’ll be the one to decide what your sexual orientation and identity is. If you’re now coming out, together we can consider if, when, how, and with whom you decide to do it. If you’re clear and comfortable with your sexual orientation, I can give you safe place where you can be open about who you and how HIV has impacted your life or your relationships

MIND/BODY
The mind and body are functionally identical. What you think affects how you feel, and what you feel affects how think. I work at both levels, with people who are interested in doing that. For people who aren't interested in the this work, I am happy to stay strictly in a talk-therapy mode.

YOU SET THE COURSE, AND I'LL HELP YOU GET THERE.

Bio
BACKGROUND
Private practice since 1981. I work with individuals and couples, mostly adults though some children, adolescents, or seniors. I have worked with people from 2-96 years old.

My background consists of an integration of several therapeutic approaches, primarily psychoanalytic, trauma, somatic, and cognitive. This is all part of my effort to understand people better and grow my abilities to help them. The psychoanalytic part is my reconstruction of psychoanalytic thought and practice, with a redefinition of trauma and a focus on its contribution throughout our lifespan. This is the subject of my new book, Traumatic Experiences of Normal Development; An Intersubjective, Object Relations, Listening Perspective, on Self, Attachment, Trauma, and Reality, released in March, 2020, and available on Amazon or Routledge.
