Bio
Kathryn has her Master of Science in Cognitive Psychology, with emphasis on Learning and the relationship between automatic and effortful processing (key to understanding applied methods for ADHD, Executive Functioning, emotional regulation, … ). She is an expert at facilitating problem solving and executive functioning development.
While she started working with Astronauts in the Space Shuttle program (1988), she has since acquired two post graduate certifications through Georgetown (1992 – Organizational Development and Systems Management) and UCSC (2001 – Educational Therapy) for an even deeper understanding of how to facilitate learning in formal environments, and chose to focus on applications to learning in educational settings.
In addition to that, to be certified as a Professional Educational Therapist, she had over 2000 hours of SUPERVISED assessment, remediation, coaching and case management work.
Since then she has practiced for 12 years with a 35 unit per year CEU criteria to keep her Professional status as an Educational Therapist up to date. She is well versed in Lindamood-Bell™ programs (LiPS, SS, VV), Making Math Real® methodology, Orton-Gillingham methods (O-G, Slingerland, Barton, Wilson), Social Thinking and Zones of Regulation, Dialectic Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, and other techniques that directly remediate and/or support the most appropriate way of learning for each student.
Currently, she is applying for PhD candidacy in Neuroscience at The Greater Good Science Center at UC Berkeley.
She teaches the following classes for various ages of students and their parents in her local communities: Executive Functioning: Organization; Mindfulness for Kiddos, …for Teens, …for Adults; and, Expressive Writing for Teens, Math Fundamentals: MMR® + Eureka + Saxon = Understanding .
