Mayumi Nakamura, Psy.D

My clinical work has focused on providing service for adult and adolescent with special emphasis on behavioral medicine, biofeedback, neurofeedback, and Cognitive Behavioral Approach. When I work with clients, I create an environment where you can find your strengths and help my clients define a sense of self. My view of a successful therapy is helping you to find alternative healthy coping skills and help you to gain a sense of self-worth.
Education/Training
She earned her M.A. in Organizational Psychology at Columbia University, Teachers College; and her Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology at the Illinois School of Professional Psychology. Dr. Nakamura completed her pre-doctoral internship at Oak Forest Cook County Hospital and her post-doctoral residency at Kaiser Permanente San Francisco Medical Center.
Bio
She is an Illinois Licensed Clinical Psychologist. Dr. Nakamura is a member of the Core Faculty and serves as the Associate Director of MA Training at Adler School of Professional Psychology.
She has presented at various conferences such as the International Society for Biomedical Research on Alcoholism, the Asian American Psychological Association, and the Illinois Association for Multicultural Counseling, the International Conference of Education, Research, and Innovation, and the Society for Psychotherapy Research International Conference.
She is trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Behavioral Medicine, Pain Management, Biofeedback, and neurofeedback. Her clinical specialties include; depression, anxiety related disorders, stress management, chronic pain/illness, relationship issues, life coaching, acculturation issues, ADD, and ADHD. Her research interests are community intervention and assessment, interracial marriage, international psychology, and suicide prevention. Dr. Nakamura is also very passionate about diversity issues and training in the context of education and psychology.
