Michael Santillan, LMSW
When was the last time you tried something new for the first time? My name is Michael Santillan and I want to be the first to let you know, that change is a terrifying thing. However, with change come new experiences. These experiences will help bring out a side of you that you’ve never known. I’m here to help you live your best life by asking you to try something new… for the first time.
As a Latin American male born and raised in Hudson County, NJ from a family of immigrants, I can understand the obstacles many people face every day. I try to create an empathetic, open-minded, and nonjudgmental approach to help clients explore issues that they face on a daily basis. My formal training includes a Masters in Clinical Social Work from Rutgers State University with a specialization in Substance Abuse Counseling. Furthermore, I have been working at Jersey City Medical Center as the medical social worker for 2 years. My area of expertise includes: HIV/AIDS, Addiction, Children and Family, LGBTQ, Latino culture, and crisis intervention. In working with client’s I like to use Motivational Interviewing, Trauma-Focused CBT, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Dialectal Behavioral Therapy. By working together, we will create a safe environment for positive changes.
