Scanlon Speech Therapy, LLC
Serving Bergen County and Parts of Passaic County
Kimberly O. Scanlon, the founder of Scanlon Speech Therapy, uses a family centered approach that encourages caregivers and those seeking therapy to be actively involved in the process. As a certified member of the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) and the New Jersey Speech and Hearing Association (NJSHA), Kimberly believes in empowering people by sharing pertinent knowledge, tips, and techniques to facilitate improvement during everyday living. Speech and language therapy is only effective when improvement is noted outside of the therapy room. For this reason, speech and language evaluations and sessions are performed in the home, where typical interaction occurs on a daily basis.
Education/Training
Kimberly regularly participates in continuing education classes to enhance her skills and to learn best-practice treatment techniques. She is trained in PROMPT® (Prompts for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets) as well as Sara Rosenfeld-Johnson's oral motor intervention for articulation and feeding. In addition to being a Compton P-ESL certified accent modification therapist, Kimberly is also Hanen certified in It Takes Two To Talk®. She earned a Bachelor of Science from Rutgers University and a Master of Arts in Communication Disorders from Montclair State University.
Bio
Kimberly is a creative thinker and a passionate therapist, who believes that children and adults should have fun in therapy. She has honed her skills by working in various settings serving all ages, populations, and disorders.
Early in her career, at Clara Maass Medical Center in Belleville, NJ, Kimberly assessed and treated inpatients and outpatients from preschoolers to geriatric adults with speech, language, voice, fluency, swallowing and cognitive disorders. Working in an acute environment was an invaluable experience because it allowed Kimberly to collaborate with medical doctors, nurses, physical and occupational therapists as well as other speech langauge pathologists.
Kimberly further enhanced her skills by working at Alpine Public School in NJ where she designed therapy programs for, and treated, students from Kindergarten to 8th grade. She also provided infused therapy to students in the classroom.
Currently, Kimberly continues to seek a diverse caseload. In addition to running Scanlon Speech Therapy , she is an early intervention provider for the State of New Jersey and also works for an assisted living facility in Saddle River.
