Research indicates a powerful relationship between our emotional experiences as children and our
physical and mental health as adults, as well as the major causes of adult mortality. It documents the conversion of traumatic emotional experiences into organic disease later in life. Adult survivors of childhood maltreatment who appear to be healthy are twice as likely to show clinically relevant levels of inflammation known to predict the development of conditions such as heart disease and diabetes.[King’s College Study led by Dr. Andrea Danese in London.]
Dr. Duenke received her Master's degree in 1990 in Clinical Psychology from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, New Jersey and then her doctoral degree from Florida Institute of Technology, in Melbourne, Florida, in 1994. She completed a pre-doctoral internship at Austin State Hospital in Austin, Texas.
After moving to California, she completed the requirements for licensure in 1998 by working at Concern Counseling Center at El Camino Hospital and various private practice settings. Currently she is completing a Master's degree in Women's Spirituality at Institute of Transpersonal Psychology in Palo Alto, California by writing a thesis on the process of finding grace in dying.
Dr. Duenke has maintained a private practice since 1998 in San Jose and opened a second office in San Ramon in 2006. She has served as the President of the Santa Clara County Psychological Association.
