I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in Private Practice serving areas around Hayward, Castro Valley, and San Leandro, Ca. I have a broad experience working with Children, Adolescents, Adults, Couples and Families with multicultural diversity and a wide range of emotional difficulties.
I offer therapy and brief consultations. After a thorough assessment of the problems and my clients ' individual needs, I use talk therapy, family therapy, couples counseling, play therapy, relaxation technics, DBT Skills training, behavior modification technics to help my clients achieve their goals.
My services are delivered in a safe, dynamic, non-judgmental, supportive, and compassionate atmosphere. I help my clients tackle life's challenges from new perspectives, differentiate external difficulties from internal conflicts and identify behavioral patterns that need to be changed to reach their goals psychological well-being.
Education/Training
Valerie Dowla, Psy.D,Licensed Clinical Psychologist(PSY16320), received her Doctoral degree in Psychology in 1997 from the California School of Professional Psychology, San Franciso, CA, a graduate school accredited by the American Psychology Association. She is licensed with the California Board of Psychology.
Bio
Dr. Dowla has maintained a Private Practice since 2004 in Pleasanton, Hayward and Castro Valley where she provides psychotherapy, psychological evaluations, and consultations.
She has extensive experience with family systems, psychological testing, psychodynamic theories, attachment theories, borderline personality disorders and psychotic disorders. More recently her work has focused on child and adolescent therapy, PTSD, DBT, and EMDR.
She was Program Director and Training Director of La Familia Children’s Day Treatments and Couneling Enriched Special Education Classes in Hayward, San Leandro and Castro Valley, CA. As Program Director she supervised staff and facilitated the integration of the mental health services with the academic program provided by the Hayward, San Leandro, and Castro Valley School Districts. As Training Director, she developed a training program at the Children Day Treatments and counseling enriched classes for doctoral level students from 9 Bay Area professional schools.
She was Training Director at La Familia Counseling Service, Out Patient program, Hayward, CA, a multicultual out-patient community clinic where she provides training to pre-doctoral and post-doctoral interns in family therapy, psychodynamic therapy and dialectical behavioral therapy for the treatment of schizophrenia, bi-polar disorders, depression, social phobia, anxiety disorders, and borderline personality disorder among others.)
