Jessica Romeyn, Psy.D.
Therapeutic & Educational Consulting
Serving Adolescents and Young Adults with Unique Challenges
Dr. Romeyn is committed to helping families locate the most appropriate educational and therapeutic options for their children and young adults. Dr. Romeyn takes a holistic approach by obtaining a thorough picture of an adolescent, young adult, and family in order to match the individual’s needs and challenges as well as strengths and capacities to the most appropriate school or program. This approach starts with an in depth analysis of existing reports, in person interviews, and interviews with other professionals that have worked with the family. Once a thorough picture has been painted, Dr. Romeyn will work with the family to locate the most appropriate setting. Once the setting has been decided, Dr. Romeyn will assist with admissions and help to ensure a smooth transition.
Dr. Romeyn is committed to a long-term partnership with her clients and families. When working with a family on residential planning and placement, Dr. Romeyn will stay involved for a period of one year. This involves assistance with transitional planning, regular contact with a school or program to keep current on her clients’ therapeutic and academic progress, and generally serving as a liaison between parents and program personnel when needed. If additional placements are suggested, Dr. Romeyn will assist with locating and the process of transitioning. In addition, Dr. Romeyn will frequently visit her clients as she travels throughout the year.
Over the past year Dr. Romeyn has visited over 250 residential schools and programs including therapeutic and emotional growth schools, therapeutic wilderness programs, therapeutic group homes, drug and alcohol treatment programs, residential treatment centers, psychiatric facilities and therapeutic boarding schools. Dr. Romeyn has a thorough understanding of all aspects of the schools and programs to which she refers families. Aspects of programs include: training of therapists, theoretical framework, qualifications of program personnel, the quality of residential living, recreational and learning opportunities.
