Practice Information
Myofascial Release as taught by John Barnes forms the core orientation of my work. Sessions can produce very profound relaxation. The technique is also highly recommended for issues of chronic pain, including fibromyalgia, carpal tunnel, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, and low back or neck pain. Myofascial Bodywork can also improve the daily life experience of people coping with a wide range of issues, including Parkinson's, lupus, and cancer.

Fascia is the connective tissue that gives form to our body. It runs in a continuous web from head to foot, and from surface to depth. It interacts with every cell. Myofascial Bodywork involves relatively gentle, sustained stretches of the fascial tissue to release restrictions.

From my point of view, myofascial bodywork is more than a bag full of techniques. It is fundamentally a way of understanding the body and how it functions. This then leads to a particular manner of dealing with the body and its dysfunctions. So, while it is true to say that I only offer Myofascial Bodywork, this encompasses a very broad range of work.

My main studio is within Heartspace Yoga and Healing Arts at 747 Madison in Albany. I also see clients on Wednesdays at a studio in Malta. Feel free to call for details.

Bio:
Abi'l-Khayr's first career was in the book business, beginning as a clerk in a B.Dalton store in Saint Louis in the early 70's. He became a store manager, then moved on to become a buyer for a book distributor in Manhattan. He was fortunate enough to be hired to work for Ed Eggers at the Book Mark in Tucson. And he ran a small -- tiny, really -- publishing company for 15 years, during which he created a couple of books on Sufism and Sufi poetry of which he is very proud.

He was given his name by his spiritual teacher. Abi'l-Khayr (all one name) might be literally translated as "father of good." A man lived 1,000 years ago, a Sufi saint, who bore the name. His life represents the teaching that spiritual practice is a means to an end, not an end in itself. Once awakening has taken place, get involved with the world. Bring that spiritual realization right down into the affairs of everyday life.

Now, in the final third of his life, he is focused on the healing arts. And the presence.
