Practice Information |
We are a private, outpatient mental health clinic specializing in the treatment of eating disorders, medical conditions, depression, anxiety, panic and related issues including relationship problems, self-injury, codependency and family problems.
Dr. Lees is a recognized expert in these conditions. She is one of the only Certified Eating Disorder Specialists in the area and also one of the only psychologists in Milwaukee to receive a post-doctoral Master’s degree in Clinical Psychopharmacology, giving her extensive knowledge about psychiatric medications and their uses in clinical care.
We are a small clinic by choice. This means you will receive personalized care in a warm, friendly and comfortable environment. We are accepting of all identities and are committed to providing affirmative treatment to all people regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, age, culture, ethnic or gender identity. We have chosen not to institute electronic health records unlike all the large clinic systems that are now required to use them. You will never have to worry about who will see your mental health records when you are treated here. We can guarantee that “confidential” really means when it comes to the privacy of your mental health information. |

Education |
Dr. Lees received her Doctor of Psychology degree with honors from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in 1990. Prior to opening Lees Psychological Services in 1998, she developed and directed several hospital-based as well as independent clinic-based, eating disorder programs for anorexia and bulimia.
A licensed psychologist and one of the only Certified Eating Disorder Specialists (CEDS) in the area, Dr. Lees was recognized in 2001 by her peers as a leading expert in eating disorders in Milwaukee Magazine’s “A Guide to Top Psychotherapists.”
Dr. Lees has expertise treating binge eating disorder, emotional overeating, obesity and the psychological aspects of weight-related medical problems such as heart disease, high cholesterol and diabetes. She has over 25 years of experience treating anxiety, panic, post-traumatic stress disorder and depression as these conditions often underlie and/or occur along with eating, weight and medical problems.
In 2012, Dr. Lees received a post-doctoral Master’s degree in Clinical Psychopharmacology which provides her with advanced knowledge in the uses and effects of psychiatric medicationsIn 2013, she received certification in the practice of Integrated Care which focuses on collaborating with medical professionals to treat the mental health issues in people dealing with medical conditions. Treating and helping people manage the lifestyle factors that contribute to medical conditions promotes improved functioning and quality of life, which in turn decreases the disease process and medical complications. Integrated care prioritizes treating the whole person and recognizes that untreated problems like anxiety and depression can strongly contribute to medical problems and a person’s ability to adhere to treatment recommendations, medication regimens, healthy eating, physical activity and lifestyle balance. |
Bio: |
Treating the whole person and not just their symptoms or diagnosis is key to providing comprehensive and effective care. This entails understanding how a person’s thoughts, feelings and behavior influence, and are influenced by, important factors such as family, job, school, friends, spirituality and health status. Situations from the past can affect why various emotional or behavioral problems occur in the present. As a result, it is imperative to understand the impact life experiences could be having on a person’s current medical and/or emotional condition.
Making change is hard even when it’s the right thing to do. Changing behavior doesn’t happen in a vacuum – thoughts and feelings often have to change, too. This takes time and every person’s time table is different. Change doesn’t happen because insurance expects it to in a predetermined number of sessions. It also doesn’t happen when treatment is provided by well- meaning but inexperienced or untrained therapists. Eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of any psychiatric condition. They are not conditions to put in the hands of treatment providers that say they treat them but don’t have the credentials to support what they say.
I only treat the conditions that I have been educated and trained to treat, those that I have advanced credentials for and those that I receive ongoing continuing education for on a regular basis. I am one of the only Certified Eating Disorder Specialists in the Milwaukee area and have to maintain specific requirements each year to keep that certification. With over 25 years of training, education and experience directing outpatient, partial and inpatient programs as well as recognition in the health care community as an expert in eating disorders, you can be assured that you or your loved one will receive the best care available. |
