Practice Information
I provide psychotherapy for a number of common problems that people struggle with. These include depression, loss and grieving, life-transition issues, problems in motivation, and beyond. I work with each client to determine what he or she needs from therapy.

I start from the perspective that people seek meaning in life. Meaning can come from many sources, including relationships, work, service, religious faith and practice. Sometimes, however, we lose our way, and need help getting back on track. While many things can get in the way of a meaningful life, including daily worries and setbacks as well as major losses and transitions, we'll work together to help you find your way.

Online, or in person?

I believe that face-to-face, in person meetings are usually the best way for client and therapist to do their work together. This isn't always possible, however, and in fact more and more therapists and clients are making use of technological developments that allow them to meet online. Research has shown that online therapy can be effective in the treatment of things like depression and anxiety when conducted by a properly trained therapist. Many clients enjoy the flexibility and empowerment that the online experience can provide. For these reasons, I am happy to talk with you about whether online therapy might be appropriate for you. (Please note that certain restrictions apply, and that online therapy might not be available in all geographical regions, in keeping with local legislation.)

Education
I completed the Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Rochester in 2004. In addition, I hold a Masters degree in Counseling from Franciscan University (Steubenville, OH), and a Masters in Divinity from Regis College (Toronto, Ontario). I am committed to respecting the faith and religious beliefs of all of my clients.

Additional Training: My Masters in Divinity training included a supervised practicum experience called Clinical Pastoral Education, which I completed at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, in Philadelphia. While there I gained hands-on experience companioning patients and their families through some of life's most challenging moments.

License and Certification: I am licensed to practice psychology by the State of New York. Additionally, I am a Nationally Certified Counselor.
Bio:
I am a licensed psychologist in the State of New York and a Nationally Certified Counselor specializing in individual therapy. I maintain a private practice in Rochester, New York.

I am honored to have graduated from the University of Rochester's nationally ranked program in Clinical Psychology. My areas of interest include relationship issues, life transitions, and problems in motivation.

In addition to my work as a psychotherapist, I have presented at national and international conferences and to other gatherings on things like relationships, motivation, self-concept, and counseling research. I am an Assistant Professor in the Counseling and Human Development program at the Warner School of Education, University of Rochester, where I teach courses on human motivation, social and emotional development, group psychotherapy, and other topics.

I believe in the value of the therapeutic relationship. My therapeutic approach is to provide an atmosphere in which clients can feel safe to address whatever problems they may currently be struggling with, to help them learn new ways of communicating with others in order to improve their relationships, and to explore and integrate parts of themselves that may be as yet untapped or hidden by shame or conflict. With a grounding in the humanistic, psychodynamic, and existential traditions, I use an integrative approach that is tailored to address the needs of each client.

Professional Activities and Memberships: I am a member of the American Psychological Association (and its Clinical Psychology division, Division 12), the American Counseling Association, and the Association for Counselor Educators and Supervisors.

Additionally, I am a member of the Human Motivation Research Group, hosted by the Department of Clinical and Social Sciences in Psychology at the University of Rochester.
