Couples Counseling is a process that begins when you make that first call. I'm Dr. Kerns and I am an Experienced Couples Counselor and the Clinical Director and Intern Supervisor at TCICC.
Many times couples come into counseling with me, feeling very frustrated and misunderstood by their partner. This conflict leads to arguing and eventually to thoughts of dissolving the relationship. Miscommunication leads to further issues in relationships that can be smoothed over and sorted out in therapy sessions.
Couples counseling can help to change relationship patterns into dynamic interactions where relationships thrive. Sessions are designed to generate an understanding of the viewpoint of the partner. From this understanding we work together to build the relationship by a blending of the strengths and weaknesses of each partner.
Success is achieved by a consistent working through of issues, each time with the partners taking more responsibility with the tools that they have learned from previous sessions. I have helped many couples, and I can help you.
Dealing with trust, commitment, communication, and intimacy can challenge any relationship. I would like to help you with your concerns today. I am a Licensed Marriage Family Therapist, and have a Doctorate Degree in Psychology, with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy, from CGI of the Chicago School of Professional Psychology.
I also work with Individual Clients on short term issues that need a quick resolution. My Therapy is based on the belief that clients' needs are of the utmost importance, and I am committed to meeting those needs. As a result, a high percentage of my business is from repeat customers and referrals. I welcome the opportunity to earn your trust and deliver you the best service in the industry.
In addition, I work on Long-term character development. Skills learned in long term therapy could help you gain considerable satisfaction in how you relate to yourself and others.
Many of my clients find it difficult to discuss their experiences with friends and family. I offer a professional counseling relationship that provides confidential, committed, and supportive therapy where my clients can tell their story, and be heard. This process helps you, the client, sort out your issues.
Counseling can help identify your unhealthy patterns, integrate problems with solutions, and empower you to live your life with satisfaction!

Bio: |
Dr. Marie Kerns, PsyD is a skilled Psychotherapist, Supervisor, Adjunct Faculty, and Board Member.
She is the Clinical Director and Intern Supervisor at Transitions Coaching of Irvine Counseling Center in Irvine. As founder of TCICC, she identified a twofold need. Clients are in need of lower cost services, and MFT Interns and LPC Interns would like to develop their private practice, while working on their 3000 BBS hours.
Registered Marriage and Family Interns with TCICC have a Masters Degree in Psychology with a specialization in counseling and psychotherapy. They provide, under supervision, psychotherapeutic services for individuals, couples, and families in need of counseling. LMFT's are required to obtain 3,000 hours of supervised training as interns. Once they have completed 3,000 hours they remain as Interns until they pass their licensing exam.
In her own work with clients, Dr. Kerns uses an integrative approach, a combination of various therapeutic strategies and skills, depending upon a client's unique challenges. In her practice she counsels Individuals, Couples, Sex Therapy Couples, Premarital Couples, Rape Recovery, Trauma Survivor, CyberSex Addicted, Chemically Dependent and Recovering Clients and more. Dr. Kerns enjoys working together with her clients to help them with their current life challenges and long standing issues.
In addition to her Private Practice, Dr Kerns has past experience as an Adjunct Professor at Argosy University, teaching both graduate and undergraduate courses in Orange County and Los Angeles. |
