Sue Bernt is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker dedicated to working with all humans to discover their strengths within.

Now and for the past 31 years, Sue has developed an awareness of how to support development of all ages. With natural and instinctive qualities, she has had a successful career as a teacher, a support to adults (Parents, Foster/Adopt Parents, and Teaching staff), and as a child and family therapist.

Sue is a dedicated advocate for quality services within communities, and strives to empower all human beings as they recognize the strengths they carry within themselves.

Sue specializes in working with children (ages 2-14) and their families. Her focus is on understanding the challenges of life brought about through relationships, self worth, behavior, trauma, depression, stress, and anxiety. Sue is now working with adults through their employee benefits (EAP) or medical insurances.

In order to maintain her credentials, Sue attends trainings to obtain Continuing Education Credits in the Mental Health field as well as keeping up-to-date on current research in the treatment of mental health and relationship issues. Sue attends trainings which focus on Child and Family Therapy, Play Therapy, Trauma, and PTSD to name a few.

Education, Training & Experience

In 1980, Sue earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Child Development and Family Life from Oregon State University. Her career has led to years of teaching (0-6 year olds), management in Head Start programs, and professional child and family counseling at a Day Treatment Center for children ages 2- 6 years of age. Sue completed her Master’s in Social Work at Portland State University in 2004. Sue is licensed in Washington (LW 60084972) and in Oregon (L4288).

Sue is a member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) and stays in touch with events offered through The Association of Play Therapy (APT).

Sue has experience working with children whose attachments to their caregivers were disrupted. Therapy with Sue includes working with attachment, behaviors, and abuse issues with adolescents and young children. Some therapy is provided to reconnect with a parent (or reunify the connection of parent and child) after a prolonged absence.

Sue has been building an adult clientele through their work Employee Assistance Programs or through Medicare. Adults have a story to tell. Many are seeking to find their strengths and coping tools set aside due to life stressors. Sue is a great listener.

Sue opened her private practice in 2010, working part time helping adolescents and children. EAP adult clients and/or children are also finding support through counseling and therapy with Sue.
