Restoring Wholeness and Dignity
EMDR, Brainspotting, and Trauma Informed Therapy
Are you hurting and feeling alone, with painful or damaged relationships due to trauma you (or your children) have endured?
Do you wonder if life can ever be different or if there is hope for you?

YOU ARE NOT ALONE.
THERE IS HOPE.

Welcome to Tamar Counseling Sevices.

I specialize in helping you resolve traumatic and painful experiences from a trauma-informed lens, within a neurobiological and attachment framework. I am certified and experienced in EMDR, an empirically validated treatment approach with the highest success rate in treatment of trauma. I am also trained in and provide Brainspotting, another sub-cortical trauma treatment approach that emerged from EMDR. I am a certified yoga teacher with specialized training in Trauma Sensitive Yoga, an evidence-based somatic treatment which helps to ground and empower survivors of chronic abuse. The approach we take with your treatment will be tailored to your specific needs, strengths, interest, and comfort through collaborative discussion and as you feel ready. It is my passion to help others grow from victim to victorious survivor, helping you to resolve dissonance between your beliefs and your experiences, facilitate harmony between thoughts and emotions, and create empowerment by strengthening internal and external supports. I have walked this road, and I have helped many others navigate successfully and safely down this seemingly unsurpassable road, too. Healing is possible. Freedom awaits at the other side.
Education/Training

Bio
My passion is for helping traumatized individuals move from the status of "victim" to "survivor", gaining confidence in your inner strength and developing your personal resources of strength and support while processing and diffusing the power of the past. I look past the presenting behaviors to the underlying hurt, helping you to give up destructive patterns without attacking or condoning. I approach counseling / therapy from an attachment perspective, which put means looking at your interpersonal connections and unfulfilled hearts' longings as the basic starting point. I believe strongly in the need for interdependence as well as developing personal resiliency, while recognizing the terror that the idea of interdependence may hold for those that have been deeply wounded by others. Depending upon factors such as age, presenting problem, and whether working with an individual or family / couple, I may also incorporate techniques such as cognitive-behavioral, art therapy, narrative work, play therapy, EMDR, and Brainspotting.
I have been working in the mental health field since 2003. My experience includes working in an institution for the state's highest designation of Severely Emotionally Disturbed (SED) children, group homes for male and female adolescents, and a community-based program for "at-risk" children and adolescents and their families or foster family caregivers. Each and every one of these children, adolescents, and families had suffered severe trauma of at least one kind, and I gained experience and became skilled in working with survivors of sexual, physical, and emotional abuse, divorce, bereavement, and separation from family members, as well as dealing with severe behavioral problems ranging from assault, drug use, sexualized behaviors, verbal aggression, property destruction, and more. In addition, I have worked with couples and adult individuals in outpatient clinics and taught a premarital class for engaged couples and those contemplating engagement. Since 2010, I have provided services through my private practice, Tamar Counseling Services.
