I am a music therapist working in the Lenexa area as a Kindermusik educator; however, I also teach adapted music (piano, guitar, trumpet) lessons in the Kansas City area and am open to working as a clinician on a case-by-case basis. Although I do not yet own my own practice, if you have a child or youth (or young adult!) who is seeking adapted music lessons for therapeutic recreation, please contact me with any questions you may have! |

Education |
Following my board-certification, I completed a specialized training through the Florida State University College of Music in association with Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare in (The National Institute for) Infant and Child Medical Music Therapy. I earned my designation as a NICU music therapist and continue to have a strong interest in learning more about the therapeutic benefits of music in neonatal intensive care, pediatric hospitals, and rehabilitation for children and adults. I am first aid and adult CPR certified through the American Red Cross, and also completed my Therapeutic Crisis Intervention certification during my work at Cunningham Children's Home. I have experience leading music ensembles (a youth handbell choir at my home church, world drumming group, youth choirs, etc.) as well as co-leading a Girl Scout troop in Urbana, Illinois, and assistant coaching youth with special emotional/behavioral needs during my employment as a Special Therapies Specialist at Cunningham. |
Bio |
I am a graduate of the University of Kansas with a bachelors in music therapy. I completed my clinical internship at the Children's Mercy Hospitals & Clinics in Kansas City, Missouri, and was hired as a temporary full-time therapist following my internship to provide maternity coverage for a co-worker. This past year, I have gained much experience as a clinician and Special Therapies Specialist in Urbana, Illinois, at Cunningham Children's Home, where I worked with residential and group home youth with severe emotinal/behavioral disorders. I provided special therapies assessments, treatment planning and scheduling, 1:1 and small group therapy interventions, Medicaid clinical documentation, and participated in weekly treatment team meetings with other mental health professionals and counselors. I have been teaching private music lessons since my high school years as a trumpet, piano, and guitar teacher. My primary instrument during college was piano; however, I played trumpet competetively until my junior year at the University of Kansas in athletic, jazz, and wind bands. I enjoy singing and strumming to provide worship music leadership. I am looking to grow my teaching studio as I also engage in educating at InJoy Music this summer in the Lenexa area, which I have called home since age three.
If you have questions about my education, clinical background, or availability for private/adapted lessons, please do not hesitate to contact me via email or my cell phone! |
