Erin Johnston, MSW, LCSW
Chicago Psychotherapist
Specializing in Anxiety, Relationships and BPD
I value each person that I work with – it is an honor that they choose to share their lives with me. My goal with everyone is to provide services that facilitate an improved level of functioning and contentment in their lives.
My style as a clinician is relaxed. Our sessions should be a positive interaction, even if we are discussing difficult issues. Whether a therapist or a coach, my sessions tend to have a feeling of two people relaxing in my living room and having a conversation. It is my job to make you comfortable and safe so that we can resolve the issues that have brought you to therapy. I do not sit back quietly, but instead engage with you to create movement and change towards a positive outcome.
I look forward to talking with you.

Bio
I view therapy and counseling is a means of assisting clients resolve issues or problems that they have not been able to satisfactorily handle on their own. I think that therapy is something that everyone can benefit from, and every therapist should participate in periodically.
People choose to seek my clinical services for different reasons. It might be an old issue. It might a more recent one. Perhaps you are unhappy with something about yourself or a problem you are having with someone else. Regardless of what brings you, my goal is to help you resolve the issues and achieve a higher level of functioning.
I use a collaborative model of therapy, where sessions are more like a conversation between peers than a traditional doctor/patient relationship. I do not view my clients’ issues as coming from an abnormal psychopathology, but instead as your normal reaction to living in a stressful, complex, and contradictory world. Using a systems model, I seek to understand your issues in the context of your unique experience rather than viewing you as having something wrong or being broken.
I consider myself to be a different therapist with each client. My focus is on what you need from me….I take my lead from you.
Therapy and counseling services include traditional psychotherapy, solution-focused/brief therapy, coaching, and couples counseling.
