Helping people resolve traumatic experiences is one of my specialties. I believe many problems such as self-defeating behavior patterns, anxiety, depression, and relationship difficulties have their origin in traumatic events in the past even when the person is not experiencing full-blown PTSD. I use some of the newer, research-supported therapy techniques like EMDR, mind-body approaches, and CBT to resolve these issues. In most cases, with effective therapy, you can truly resolve these issues and leave them behind, not just "learn to live with them" or "cope" or "manage" them as if they were incurable diseases you will never be free from. This is empowering and opens the door to genuinely learning and growing without self-sabotage or being pulled back into the past.
I am client-centered and believe you "own" your therapy. I observe strict confidentality. You set the pace and you decide the length of your involvement in therapy with me, whether brief or long-term. |

Bio |
I was born and raised in Oakland and San Francisco but in recent years have been living in small-town western Colorado. I also lived for a year and a half in Bogota, Colombia and have traveled and worked in Central America for short periods. I have built a house, rebuilt engines, washed dishes, and taught in community college settings. I've been a professional counselor and psychotherapist almost all of the past 25 years, working for community mental health centers, schools, social service agencies, and mentoring agencies with a diverse variety of people from all walks of life with just about every imaginable presenttng problem or challenge, before creating an independent, more specialized private practice. I love exploring the outdoors, especially the mountains of Colorado and the canyon country of southern Utah. I have adult children and grandchildren living apart from me and am active in various community activities and organizations. |
