Individual, Couple, and Family Counseling
to Help You Become Unstuck
It can be very anxiety-provoking to take the first steps to identify and locate a therapist. Maybe you have been searching for a Houston therapist for a few days or even weeks. Maybe you have called and hung up several times. Maybe you were taught that strong people don't need help. Maybe you think a therapist won't understand.
There is no shame in seeking help. It shows strength to ask for help. It also puts you in control of your well-being. Every individual struggles with issues, which can span the spectrum from long-standing psychological disturbances to short-lived situational problems.
I value you as a unique individual based on your identity and experience in life. You are the expert of your life, and I am an assistant on your journey of self-exploration, growth, and healing. Whether you are working on everyday struggles or major life dilemmas I offer an understanding ear and warm, nonjudgmental setting. We will work together to make sense of your story.
Education/Training
I have a bachelor’s in psychology, master’s in clinical psychology, and a doctorate in public health with a focus on community health. I have worked since 2000 in the community mental health field at academic institutions, government agencies, and hospitals, most recently as a psychotherapist at a post-acute brain injury facility and an Assistant Professor at The University of Texas Health Science Center. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), which means that I have met criteria established by the State of Texas to independently provide counseling, assessment, consultation, and referral. I have specialized training in neurofeedback and am credentialed as a LENS clinician.
Bio
I have worked with a variety of individuals from different walks of life, including children, adolescents, adults, and older adults, to include special populations such as veterans, traumatic brain injury survivors, and abuse survivors, from many ethnicities and cultures. I have experience treating mental illness in both inpatient and outpatient settings, including the police department, veteran's hospital system, and rehabilitation facilities.
I am a published author in peer-reviewed professional journals and have also served as a medical writer of content for pages, pamphlets, grants, and other professional documents for educational and government entities. I have presented at professional conferences and scientific meetings. I'm skilled in survey design and psychometrics.
