Leigh Benowitz, MSW, LICSW, BCD
Using a relational model, I offer people a safe and trusting environment to explore life challenges, hopes and goals. My expertise is in trauma recovery, eating disorders/body image and addictions. However, I enjoy all areas of mental health and wellness.
My approach to therapy is fluid, depending on where a person is at any particular time. Throughout the course of therapy, a person's needs change, so the approach needs to remain flexible. Some of the work I offer is related to family of origin, improving the quality of relationships, mind-body awareness and making cognitive-behavioral changes. I use various techniques that include psychoeducation, role play, psychodrama and an energy therapy called Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT).

Bio
Searching for a therapist can seem daunting, particularly when in the midst of a life transition, a crisis or unresolved conflicts from the past are affecting present day life.
I offer a resiliency model of therapy that focuses on strengths, builds awareness and teaches the tools to move through challenges
more easily and quickly. Finding a safe place to talk about personal issues and those
feelings that are held closest to the heart can be the beginning of change. Providing therapy for 28 years has been an honor. Watching others' strength and courage, as well as their ability to heal never cease to amaze me...
My clinical specialties include women's issues, trauma recovery, transitional life issues, eating and body image concerns, addictions, adult children of alcoholics and mental illness, depression, anxiety and relationship issues.
Careful attention is paid to what an individual requests and finds helpful. Each therapy is uniquely and respectfully designed collaboratively with a person to follow their needs and changes over time, as growth and awareness increase. Approaches include: relational therapy, a psychodynamic focus, mind-body therapies, Internal Family Systems, cognitive-behavioral therapy and relaxation/meditation.
