Do you find yourself repeatedly drawn into the same frustrating emotional patterns and relationships despite your best intentions and efforts to change? Perhaps an approach that addresses the underlying meaning of these seemingly irrational behaviors is called for. I believe that honesty about our desires, motives, and feelings is the first step in the process of growth and change. The courage to honestly face previously disowned experiences, while ultimately freeing, is not easily achieved alone, apart from a trusting relationship. It is my privilege to create a safe context for you to examine your life in all its complexity.
I am convinced that when shameful and painful experiences can be brought to light, understood and fleshed out, troubling symptoms tend to subside and relationships improve. Most importantly, it often becomes easier to feel a greater sense of agency, freedom, and purpose in life.
I believe that therapy can give you the courage to shed unnecessarily rigid and self-defeating ways of being and relating to others and allow you to experience more contentment and hope in the future. I welcome the opportunity to partner with you in this process.

I received my PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Cincinnati in 2002. In the last 8 years, I have been in private practice, teaching, doing research, and mentoring graduate students. Since fall 2009, I have also been a candidate in the psychoanalytic training program at the Chicago Center for Psychoanalysis.
