Counseling for Happiness and Transformation
Seeking the support of a therapist is a positive step toward actively addressing and resolving emotions and situations that are troubling you. Many of my clients start therapy because they are feeling anxious or depressed, burdened by relationship sturggles, or stressed by life's demands. Others use the therapy experience as a way to maximize personal happiness and explore self-improvement. No matter what you may be feeling, please know that you do have the power to change your behavior patterns, the way you think about challenges, how you respond in relationships, and how you care for yourself. It's my honor to guide people in this process.
The biggest predictor of success in therapy is whether you feel comfortable with your therapist. My style is supportive and respectful, but also practical and action-oriented. I realize that starting therapy can feel intimidating and I place the highest priority on creating a caring, safe and confidential environment for you to discuss your thoughts and feelings. I invite you to contact me for a confidential, free phone consultation to get a sense of what I offer as a therapist.
Education/Training
I earned my graduate degree in Social Services Administration from the University of Chicago and am licensed in clinical social work by the State of Illinois. This qualifies me to practice independently as a psychotherapist and to be recognized for reimbursement by insurance companies. As an NASW Certified Diplomat in Clinical Social Work, I have met the most rigorous standards for clinical excellence in my profession. In addition, I constantly expand my base of knowlede and resources by pursuing a wide range of advanced training and continuing education opportunities.
Bio
I love my work and the reward of witnessing positive growth and change in my client's lives. As a licensed clinical social worker, I have almost 20 years of experience in helping people develop their emotional well-being and overcome life's challenges. Before starting my counseling practice I was fortunate to build my skills through work in community mental health, inpatient psychiatry, child welfare, medical social work, and corporate settings.
My specific interests include using cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for the treatment of panic attacks, social anxiety, excessive worry, phobias and depression. I also utilize a clinical technique called EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) for the healing of issues associated with overwhelming or traumatic experiences.
