OUR STORY: Founded in 2013 by Julie Meyer, M.S. CCC-SLP, Listen Hear Speech and Hearing is a private practice specializing in services for children with deafness or hearing loss, and children with language and/or speech sound disorders. Listen Hear works on listening, language, & speech sound development, as well as empowers parents and educators to support & encourage listening & communication development in the classroom & home.
OUR MISSION: To provide quality services to children & their families in a fun, positive & nurturing environment; promote use of best practices & effective strategies in the classroom and home; utilize evidence-based intervention; educate & support family members, teachers, & other professionals.
OUR SERVICES: I provide individual & group therapy sessions for listening and spoken language, speech, language comprehension/processing, & fluency development to children with hearing loss & children with speech sound, language, and/or fluency disorders, in Fredericksburg, VA, & to the surrounding areas, as well as collaboration/ongoing training with parents & professionals.

Bio
Julie studied in upstate NY receiving her bachelor's degree in Communication Science Disorders from Elmira College. In 2003 she was one recipient of a leadership grant out of 12 students nationwide, that allowed her to further pursue her passion, and study American Sign Language at Gallaudet University for a summer. She earned her Masters in speech-language pathology with a specialty certification in working with deafness and hard of hearing individuals at Nazareth College in Rochester, NY. During her studies there, she took classes at at the National Technical Institute of the Deaf at Rochester Institute of Technology. She also worked and interned at the Spoken and Language Learning and Practice Lab, where she worked with college students who are deaf to work towards their goals of improving their voice and spoken language skills. Julie has skills in Signed English, American Sign Language, and Cued Speech.
After graduating, Julie moved to Washington D.C. where she worked as a speech-language pathologist from 2006-2009, for The River School, a private school with children who are deaf or hard of hearing utilizing cochlear implants and/or hearing aids, in an auditory-oral, inclusion program. Here, she worked full time in preschool and kindergarten classrooms as a teacher and speech language therapist along with a masters level educator in a co-teaching model. She planned classroom lessons for preschool and kindergarten, taught oral-motor and phonological awareness/literacy groups, and collaborated with an on-site audiologist, teacher, and occupational therapist. Julie has also had experience with working with a variety of speech and language disorders in public schools including speech/articulation disorders, phonological disorders, language disorders, fluency disorders, and Childhood Apraxia of Speech from 2009 until the 2017. Julie began her private practice in 2013, and after having her children and working in the school systems full-time, Julie made the decision to take the leap into what she is most passionate about, and began working full-time in her private practice in June 2016.
Julie's mission is to provide best practice and quality service in listening and spoken language, articulation, overall language, and fluency development; as well as support services to teachers, parents, and family members. Julie currently lives in Fredericksburg, VA with her husband, 4 1/2 year old son, and 2 1/2 year old daughter.
