Tamara Clarkson, LPC
Counselor for Life + Career
From the outside, it seems like you have it all together. Perhaps the people around you would say you’re kind, humble, and even confident. But on the inside you feel lost and can’t stop focusing on your flaws or failures. Maybe you wish you could be content with who you are just for one minute, versus having feelings of self-doubt creep into your mind at such annoying rates of frequency.
My clients feel like you. Despite trying their best and being supportive of those they love most, they feel like they’re not enough. They often describe themselves as people who can see the best in others, but for some reason, they struggle to show themselves that same level of kindness.
When they meet with me for the first time, they’re hesitant and unsure, but they fight through the discomfort because they know that what’s going on within them can’t be solved by another self-help article or trendy habit. They’re tired of being driven by fear, the possibility of rejection, or the constantly-looming expectations of others. They’re done with hiding from themselves and those around them, pretending everything is fine.
Like my clients, you deserve the chance for someone to get to know you—the real you.
During our time together we’ll sort through the stories you’ve told yourself about who you are and who you can’t be. You will come out on the other side understanding that you are not your failures but a multifaceted human being with your own set of unique experiences and strengths. I will help you understand that you are enough, and together we’ll find tools that remind you of that fact every day.

Bio
I’ve partnered with adults, parents and teens over the past 9 years to process their life experiences and unpack the “I should be” or “I can’t be” messages they’ve lived their lives by.
The clients who have most benefited from my work would describe themselves as kind and as people who would do anything for those they love. They’d say they have perfectionistic tendencies and strive to be high achievers. But they ultimately carry feelings of inadequacy because they feel like they’re either not enough or they’re disappointing those they love most. This struggle tends to be one they keep to themselves as they don’t want to bother those around them with these complicated feelings.
I’ve found that people naturally undervalue their strengths and accomplishments, and this prevents them from recognizing their true value. The good news, though, is that these are only stories, and stories can be rewritten to help us grow and flourish personally, professionally, and creatively.
How do I know? I’ve had to rewrite my story and disregard the false messages I was taught at a young age. When I finally stopped, looked inward, and experienced good therapy, I saw how much grit I possessed. I found that I could break through old patterns and learn new things: how to communicate, how to deal with conflict, and how to allow myself to be seen and loved.
I offer judgment-free counseling that aims to inspire and develop rather than shame and impose. I view the counseling experience as a partnership and an alliance. I will respect and honor your disclosures and help you work toward developing tools and strategies to take control of your narrative.
I utilize a number of counseling modalities, including Person-Centered, Strengths-Based, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Attachment Theory, and Mindfulness. Above all else, I will listen to your story and provide counseling that is best suited to you.
Those who have partnered with me leave feeling empowered in who they are, understanding that they are worthy of love and this life they’ve been given. They throw away the “all-or-nothing” mentality, and become more resilient human beings.
Counseling is not just about resolving the now. It’s about helping you create your forever. If you are ready to begin writing the next chapter of your life story, book an appointment today or schedule a free consultation call. I can’t wait to meet you.
