Timea Tenkei, MA, MFT
Qualified Marriage and Family Therapist / Couple Therapist
Mind Sessions
I am a qualified psychotherapist within the field of Family Therapy. What this means is that I work with individuals or families or couples in order to nurture change and development. When I look at change, I focus a lot on different systems of interaction in the context my client lives in. I believe that regardless of where the problem originates from, it is key to involve family members in the solution. The idea is to catalyze the strengths, wisdom, and support of the wider system.
Through my work I aspire to provide unconditional care, including adjusting to the changing needs of my clients. My work within mental health was always altered to my client's culture, values and unique expectations. I enjoyed providing services utilizing a client driven process using the strengths and resources of the patient and community.
Personally I am a professional whose strengths include cultural sensitivity and a strong ability to build rapport with a diverse population . Clinically I am an analytical thinker, demonstrating talent for identifying, improving, and streamlining complex work processes and innovative at problem solving.
In my work I am a flexible team player who thrives in environments requiring ability to effectively coordinating services on a multidisciplinary team.
My private practice is within my home. I usually see clients either in the evening between 6PM-8PM or see clients over the weekend.
Education/Training
I got my undergraduate degree in Psychology from the City University of New York. I completed my Masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Alliant University in San Diego California.
Bio
For the past 7 years, I have worked as a Family Therapist in various community mental health settings and delivered wide range of services to children, young people and to their families presenting with an array of mental health diagnosis. Currently I am working as a Family Therapist within Islington Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services and also working part time at Maudsley Hospital, in their neuro-developmental division. Within both of these posts I asses and implement treatment within systemic family therapy modality.
During and after graduate school, I have been based in community mental health settings as a specialist practitioner primarily working with children and young people with moderate to severe diagnosable mental health disorders such as Anxiety Disorder, ADHD, Depression, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and Learning Disability. Generally my systemic practice is based on an eclectic model in which I embrace numerous models from structural to solution focused and from CBT family work to attachment theory.
