Practice Information
“I work from a strength-based perspective, which uses the client's history as a guide but focuses on finding practical ways to bring healing and hope to the client's present challenges. I have several years of experience in working with individuals, couples, families and children in a therapeutic setting. Previously I worked in the Santa Cruz County Jail System to provide help with Anger Management training, dealing with PTSD, addiction issues, managing ADHD, coping with Bi-polar disorder, crisis intervention and support, domestic violence, and many other issues.

Working with children I draw upon play and narrative therapy and my own experience as a father. I have experience with helping children work through grief and loss, teaching parents how to take the stress out of parenting and replace it with fun with the principles of Love and Logic Parenting, and many other issues.

Bio:
I hold a Bachelor of the Arts Degree in Research Psychology and a Masters of Science Degree in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis is Counseling. As a Marriage and Family Therapist Intern I strive to provide the highest quality of care possible for my clients by using proven research and evidence backed interventions. I am open to and enjoy working with clients from all walks of life, the variety and diversity of my clients (as no two are the same) fuels my passion for counseling. My main goal in counseling is to help my clients achieve what they came in to accomplish.

I enjoy working with children, adolescents, families, couples, and individuals. For the last year and a half I have worked in the public mental health field and have gained experience dealing with a large range of life transitions and challenges, including loss of a loved one, separation from family, loss of employment, children leaving home, divorce and many more. I draw heavily upon the Cognitive-Behavioral model of therapy in order to help my clients identify what they want to change and systematically develop and execute a plan to make that change. In working with depression, anxiety and other emotional issues I utilize Person Centered therapy in order to help connect with the client and facilitate trust.

In working with children, families, or parents my approach is drawn from Parenting with Love and Logic®. I find that this approach offers simple easy to use techniques that help take the stress out of parenting. I have found Love and Logic’s approach to be helpful myself in dealing with my own five year old and newborn daughters.

One of my reasons for entering the field of psychology was the research of Dr. John Gottman PhD, as he is one of the most well-known and highly respected marriage and couple psychologists in the world. It is my pleasure to offer marriage and couple counseling based on his evidence-based research and theories.

Additionally, working with male clients is something I am passionate about, as I feel that today’s society inhibits men from developing healthy ways of expressing and dealing with emotion. I enjoy helping men learn how to understand, connect, and express thoughts and feeling in ways that are beneficial to the functioning of their couple, family, and social relationships
