Practice Information

I look at the underlying issues that cause the presenting problem. I believe we carry forward unconsciously past hurt and unresolved issues. By understanding a persons's unresolved "hurts" and how they act them out "process" a person can alter behavior. Therefore, I help the client become aware of his/her process so that they control unwanted behaviors. It is about helping a person operate more from their adult than reacting to situations based on their unresolved child or past hurt situations. Therapy is about helping a client feel stronger emotionally, and being able to communicate rather than being controlled by their unresolved injuries from the past (childhood or past relationships) and reacting out of pain. Understanding one's transference accomplishes that. Transference, the process of unconsciouly carrying past hurt into the present blurs how we experience a person in the present. Therefore, greater awareness of how we operate, what we carry from our past, gives us better tools to handle present situations such as relationships, work, or just greater self awareness.

I have been in private practice for 33 years focusing on individual and relationship issues. I have written two books which focus on how we bring past issues unconsciously into a relationship entitled "Why Love Stops, How Love Stays. The second book looks at how we attach to others and the reasons behind attachment issues entitled "Staying Connected to your Partner".
