Practice Information:
Brittany Olsen, MA, MFT is a licensed psychotherapist offering counseling and therapy for adult individuals and couples. She specializes in relationships, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, self-esteem/identity, and the general difficulties that one may experience from major and minor life transitions. Brittany counsels couples in all phases of the relationship – from pre-marital counseling to marital challenges (communication, infidelity, negative relational patterns) to the uncoupling process.

Brittany has had great success in helping her clients, mainly by fostering a supportive yet challenging therapeutic environment. Her approach is strength-based, solution-focused, and pragmatic. She believes that her clients ultimately know what is best for them, and it is her job to facilitate improvement through a compassionate and collaborative therapeutic forum.

Brittany generally employ a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) orientation. This focus entails identifying those faulty thinking patterns that are skewing one’s view of the world and contributing to one’s distress and life difficulties. This approach has consistently been shown to be the most effective in relieving symptoms and producing change.
Bio:
Brittany completed her undergraduate studies at Northwestern University with a degree in Communication Studies and an undergraduate Certificate in Leadership from the Kellogg School of Managament. After a decade-long career in the corporate realm, Brittany pursued Counseling Psychology from the University of San Francisco, graduating in 2004.

She launched her new career working with at-risk adolescents as part of the USF Center for Child and Family Development, which included clients who were part of the juvenile justice system. Additionally, Brittany practiced within a short-term therapy framework as part of the City of San Francisco Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Most recently, Brittany has worked with two community mental health agencies – Bay Area Psychotherapy Services & Oak Creek Counseling Center.

In addition to her clinical work, Brittany has done research and writing for an internet testing and matchmaking service, as well as for a children's educational toy company. Brittany occassionally writes freelance articles and just finished editing a book on the emotional aspects of being engaged.
