I am an experienced family therapist. I work with married and unmarried couples, with families, and do individual work with adults. My experience is that when working with children and teenagers around the whole variety of issues that bring them into treatment, it is quicker and more effective to work with the whole family together than to work with the child alone. For children their families are central and shifts in the family impact on children and adolescents in a powerful way that therapists working alone cannot match. I also work with families where issues have arisen between adult parents and children and between adult siblings. I also have found hypnotherapy to be a useful tool particularly in helping people to deal with issues of anxiety and depression.

As a family therapist I am always attentive tho the importance of the significant relationships in our lives. I am attentive to the patterns that develop in families and couples and how those become stuck, and how to help people change them. I also try and pay attention to the positive aspects of people's lives, their strengths and resources and how to enhance those. Often, in difficult circumstances attention becomes over focused on problems and strengths get ignored. Families can create problems but they are also a source of healing.

My office is in midtown Manhattan. I do have some evening hours. I have a sliding scale. For people who are unsure about starting therapy, or wish to meet with me before making a decision, I am happy to set up a free meeting to talk with them.

I received my MA in Counseling Psychology from Antioch University in 1983.
I received my training in family therapy from the Kantor Institute and Atlanticare in 1986-1989
I finished a 100 hour training in Ericksonian Hypnotherapy from the Ny Society for Ericksonian Psychotherapy and Hypnosis in 2007

Daniel Minuchin is a licensed marriage and family therapist with 30 years experience. He has practiced largely in the Boston area and in New York city He has provided consultation and training around working with families to schools, mental health centers, and agencies involved in residential , substance abuse, psychiatric, and homebased treatment. He has an interest in child welfare and consults to agencies involved in prevention work, and has worked with foster care agencies. He was a consultant to the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health. More recently he has been working with The Jewish Board, of Family and Children's Services. Brooklyn Community Services, Fordham/ Tremont CMHC and other agencies He has an interest in hypnotherapy and teaches for the N Y Society of Ericksonian Psychotherapy and Hypnosis. He is interested in how agencies and other helping institutions can interact with families more productively,and is interested in the field of conflict resolution and Dialogue. Mr. Minuchin maintains a private practice in midtown Manhattan
